Arianna Brissi, Creative Director and co-founder of interiors and homewares brand Brissi lets us know her thoughts for Spring Summer 2017 Interiors Trends.
When updating your home for the changing seasons and interiors trends, begin by polishing up the base and layer it with a new feel. Take up an old carpet and paint the floors, finishing with a new comforting rug. At this time of year we are in a vortex of good intentions, from new diets to a blank new diary. With all this renewed energy it is the ideal time to start afresh with a visual project.
Lots of small changes are better than one big risky one if we are unsure. We can all dare a little too much, the budget is quickly out of the window and it is too late to re-build the wall we knock down.
The new Spring season sees an even stronger return in all things organic and artisan made. The need for comfort and irregular shapes features everywhere. My top five trends to look out for this year are:
Bright, Spring-like colours bring with them connotations of new beginnings, growth and the flourish of new life: very apt for the New Year and the changes we all pledge to make. Add these colours to your home to remind you that the New Year is a fresh start, in life as well as at home. You will notice this trend everywhere, as ‘Greenery’ has been named the Pantone Colour of the Year – which pairs beautifully with our upcoming fuchsia pink products.
2. Mixed Prints
First seen on the runways in AW16, interiors are bringing mixed patterns to centre stage this Spring/Summer. This trend is for the bold; those who do not wish to shy away from splashing their personalities all over their home decor. Perhaps first start with some mixed pattern accessories; think cushions, throws, wall prints, and you’ll be on your way to the mix & match home of your dreams.
Blue is simple and foolproof yet sleek and stylish. Deeper shades of blue are tipped to be a hit this season in any room of the house – whether you fancy a complete room overhaul or you’d rather add some classy accents around the house. In short, navy is definitely the new black.
Artisan is defined as ‘a worker in a skilled trade, especially one that works by hand’. SS17 will be leaving the craze of DIY interior ideas drawn from Pinterest and Instagram behind in 2016. This season is all about the look of the superior handmade, bringing the return of traditional materials like Porcelain, and the even more traditional method of glass blowing. After all, we are all still in love with the handmade, original pieces that we can add to our homes.
5. Raw Whites
Remaining with the handmade, artisan theme, chalky, unpolished whites will add an authentic feel to your one of a kind pieces this season, bringing the organic and untouched feeling to your home. Create a stressless and serene atmosphere by adding these calming influences of white all over the house, including the bedroom, kitchen and living room.
